Ciao, America .. Buongiorno Italy! I have been waiting for an opportunity to travel abroad and thanks to KSU Hospitality Management Program, Swathi, Christine Connors, Nicoletta and my parents I was able to fillful a dream. I am now here and it is everything I imagined and more. I hope you enjoy the blog just as much as I enjoy writing and doing everything!

Arrivederci Kent, Ohio!
May 10th - May 17th

Ciao from Italy! One thing I can say for sure is that between Italians and us four there will never be a dull moment. The first day we arrived to the Firenze airport, Zach and I had to catch a ride from a taxi to our apartment. We have the gentlemen that I was sitting next to on the plane to thank for that one! (Thanks sir ) As soon as Jackie arrived, Michael's flight got delayed a day, we were off to find the KSU Florence campus. Well that turned into another adventure that we can mark off our checklists, getting lost the first day in Italy. We continued that spree with a night out on the town taking us a little bit longer to find out way back then expected. lol :) Oo but Gato de Volpe, a family run Italian restuarant, is a must see on anyones list to Italy! We all shared a family dinner that included wine, bread and oil, appetizer platter (salami, proscuito, tomatoes, mozzerella), and four different pastas: gnocchis with cream sauce, pesto, muschroom cream raviolis and vodka penne. Magnifico! But to finish off any Italian dinner you must stop and get gelato and let me tell you, you will have no problem finding a place as there is one on every corner. The time difference did take a toll on us the whole first week, but once Sunday rolled around we all seemed to be a bit more acclumated to the change. I for one can say that if you are going to be traveling over seas during the summer make SURE that you take many Airbone pills, drink a ton of water and take allergy pills; even if you are not sick yet. I regret to say that I was one to get sick the first day here and now its the eight day and I am just now starting to get over it so lesson learned ... LISTEN TO EXPERIENCED TRAVELERS and take pills! Until next time folks :)

Florence VS America!
May 26th - June 1st

I'm back and ready to finish telling you my story! Okay guys if you had only one option of food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? Well here in Italy that choice is a lot more prevalent than in America. Pasta, pizza, panini or salad is about the only options at more than all do the places. Not to offend any Italians because those foods can be great at many places but America gives us the unlimited options of eating anything we want. It's great! Now, about Florence though, there are some Chinese and American diners in the area or some upscale restaurants that serve steaks like Aqua Al 2, UH this place is amazing! I had a sampler of their salads, chicken, fennel and Greek for my primo course and my secondary course was a chefs sampler of steak. If your mouth is drooling yet, it was filet mignon with blueberry sauce, filet mignon with balsamic glaze and a foccasia bun toasted with slivered beef, tomatoes, arugula and parmesan cheese! Does that not sound like heaven? I could live with that restaurant as my only option. What's cool about this place is that you can go to this restaurant!! It has two other branches in America, California and Washington, D.C. So no worries, you get the chance to try some Italy cuisine in America, although my Ohio fans have to travel a bit but I'm telling you, your tummy will thank you later!
Okay, so back to some Italian cuisine options, Pino's is a small sandwich shop owned by PINO! What are the chances, right? He has over 30 sandwiches to choose from which makes his place even better because you could do a 30 day challenge that is actually super easy and attainable. 30 sandwiches, 30 days can I do it? The answer is No, but I have a friend, Dom who is actually completing this by the end of this week and successfully by Friday he has had 30 different sandwiches from Pino's. Come on, let's give him a round of applause everyone! Now in America we don't have to make up such challenges, you can go into a restaurant and fine a challenge posted in their menu or up on their wall like Quaker Steak and Lube. The atomic wing challenge which consists of signing a waiver, basically saying if u get sick you can't blame them, and attempting to eat X amount of extremely hot wings in a time frame. I don't know about you, but you can't get me to go above the level .. Mild. Oo, to my Kent State fans, Remember the big challenge at Mikes Place?! Yea that's about all I got with that one, to everyone that doesn't live in Ohio, look up Mikes Place it's a cool joint. But any-who, my point being is that us Americas can make anything into a race or a challenge even with food as Italians prefer to enjoy what they are eating, especially since they have adapted this new concept of slow food. This concept is based off of sustainability and organic,  eco-friendly foods.  There is this one restaurant called, Eataly that is all about this concept of fresh, farm produced ingredients to make food that people choose and sit down to eat. In Italy you barely see a fast food place and there are no drive thru's restaurant here at all, well at least in the parts of Italy I have been too. They do have McDonalds and Burger King though and this one weird place that resembles a KFC called Star Chicken. Italians also do to-go orders but they call it take away, which makes sense. Although Italy's food choices are much different and resemble some what of a culture shock, it's all been pretty good. I can't lie though, I do miss my American food!! I think it's safe to say I won't be having pasta for awhile once I get home.

Amsterdam, Netherlands!
June 25th - June 28th

So far so good, Roger! This is me and Mikey's first adventure without the other two with us and it's going to be an interesting one. All of us have some trait that we use to lean on each other and we are without two of those. Jackie is our mother figure, Zach is our go with the flow dude, Mikey is the adventurous one and me, well I'm not sure, I guess we would have to ask the other three. But regardless, when we go on 'holidays' we are like a little family. At 14:55 our plane departs Florence, Italy and arrives in Zurich, Germany aboard the best, Swiss Airlines. Okay, so I say this because our light refreshment was strawberry Swiss ice cream and chocolate. Like wait, what? We get free ice cream and chocolate, score! Now we will have to see what our dinner is on our way to Amsterdam. I have a feelings it's gonna be a stuffed chicken breast with a white cream sauce, Oo or a steak with garlic mashed potatoes? Hmm maybe I'm getting too ahead of myself with this whole experience aboard a plane. It's probably gonna be some over cooked ravioli or plain chicken breast and mushy veggie. Alright so first comment about this Zurich airport is holy heck, expensive much!! A Bloody Mary cost 16.50 or a burger and fries is 29.95. Now I get we are in an airport but inflation much? After walking around for awhile we found this one sports bar with beer for 18 a pitcher and decided the best deal would be to split, so we did and had an awesome server. He gave us some ideas about Amsterdam and told us that it was ranked as one of three cities that are top to visit in Europe; glad I can check this off my bucket list! Oo and he also informed us that Zurich was a great city to visit because it's so expensive that it's not a tourist attraction site, I see that. But I guess when I come back to visit Rome and Venice I have to make a pit stop in Zurich for a few days thanks to Gus .. I'm not sure his name but that suits him well. Oo, so remember earlier I was talking about the airplane food to Amsterdam being great? Well it was great but it was actually pretty good! We received a sandwich of turkey, cheese and an anti pasta spread and for dessert some more Swiss chocolate. What's better than round two of chocolate? To make the flight even better, we were watching the cartoon, Tom and Jerry the whole way there. WOW, the days we spend in A,stream are ones I'm sure me and Mikey will never forget. Such a different culture change, so relaxed and laid back atmosphere compared to Italy. I think if I had to choose one place to visit for rest of my life it would be between here and Croatia (Croatia cause the beach and sea scene). The food in Amsterdam is comparable to America. You can choose just about anything you want to eat, but we did have some traditional Holland dishes with meat and potatoes which was excellent at a little mom and pop restaurant, Greetje's. I will definitely be back soon, Amsterdam.
